Jerry Lysaght Obituary

Jerry Lysaght NEWBERRY, SC - Jerry Lysaght, Jr., 80, of Newberry, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 28, 2023. He lived a full and remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and colleagues. Born on August 20, 1942, in Charleston, SC, he was a son of the late Jeremiah Augustus Lysaght, Sr. and Adele Bradwell Lysaght. Jerry was an exceptional leader with a strong work ethic and decisiveness. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force for over 21 years- retiring as a Master Sergeant (acting Chief Master Sergeant) with 13 medals/ribbons including the Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Organizational Excellence Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Long Tour Service Ribbon, Overseas Short Tour Service Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters for multiple awards of the same decoration, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and AF Training ribbon. Following an admirable career in the military he embarked on a successful career in the petroleum and fiberglass manufacturing industries from which he retired as Senior Vice President at McLean Fiberglass in Newberry. Jerry had several interests outside of work. He was a Master Mason of the 32nd degree and was passionate about supporting various charitable causes including Tunnels to Towers, the Boys Farm and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Jerry's leadership qualities were widely admired by his colleagues who often reminisce about how he would tackle complex projects with ease while motivating the team to reach their goals within designated timelines. He led by example never asking anyone to do something that he wouldn't do himself. Jerry will always be remembered as a loving husband, caring father, grandfather to many, excellent leader, and friend to all who knew him. Family was of the utmost importance to him and the joy of his life. Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Lilja A. Lysaght, married for 43 years and 4 daughters: oldest daughter, Sheree Maree Duval (John) with 3 granddaughters, Morgan, Danielle with 2 great-grandsons, and Holly; daughter, Pamela Jean Mashburn (Kevin) with 1 granddaughter, Molly with 2 great-grandchildren; daughter, Edle Helga Erwin (D'Wayne) with grandson, Jack Jeremiah Swink (Crystal) with 1 great-grandson, Samuel Jack Swink, and grandson, Anthony Brian Swink; and youngest daughter, Kristin Adele Lysaght Lemus (Jacob) with 2 grandsons, Jacob Lysaght Lemus and Noah Agnar Lemus. He is also survived by many loved cousins, extended families and neighbors/friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Sue L. Marie, and a brother, Claude O. Lysaght.
