To the dear family of Steve,

I was a classmate and friend of Steve during our two years at Spartanburg Methodist College. Steve and his Dad were two of the first people I met as I was unpacking my Ford Maverick in the dormitory parking lot. Steve later told me, "My Dad was impressed with you as soon as he saw you were driving a Ford!"

I had not seen Steve since 1972 but we occasionally visited by phone. Unbelievable, but it has been about 20 years since we last visited by phone.

I have lived in Germany since 2014. I learned of Steve's passing today after trying to Google a phone number for Steve.

Steve was a dear friend from our Spartanburg days. He was one of the funniest of anyone I've known. He was a natural as a comedian. Sometimes Steve brought humor unintentionally. I remember a college snow skiing trip to the North Carolina mountains. Steve and I, along with several other classmates, had just gathered at the top of the beginner slope for our first skiing lesson. Steve's accidentally moved a ski that resulted in Steve making an unplanned trip down the slope while screaming for skiers in his path to get out of the way!

I have so many wonderful memories of Steve.

Steve was an awesome human being! He was a loyal friend. After reading his obituary, I lit a votive prayer candle for him.

Steve, sorry I am four years late learning of your passing. Thank you for your friendship.

Prayers are with Steve's family.

I just recently met Steve, He was my table leader at Low Country Emmaus walk #80. He was such an inspiration to me as well as the other gentlemen at our table. Steve was one of the few that I have met in life that made such an impression on me in so little time together. I know he was a Christian Man and is in HEAVEN and we will meet again my friend. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, I will miss you and continue my 4th day Journey with you in mind.

May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you. Friends are the pillars on your porch. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes they lean on you, and sometimes it's just enough to know that they are standing by. They say love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies. "Love never fails". 1Cor 13:8.
