Jerold LaVerne Weiss, 81, of Summerville, SC, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Brookdale Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, TX. Jerry was born on March 12, 1941, in Mondovi, Wisconsin, to LaVerne and Irene (Teela) Weiss. He married his hometown sweetheart, Barbara Kay (Norrish) Weiss on June 17, 1961, and they were married for 43 wonderful years before Barb died in 2004. Dear friends,

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Jerold, August 28,2022. On behalf of the Forward Air Controllers Association (FACA), please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. It is our loss as well, besides being a fellow aviator, we considered him a brother.

As you know, Jerold belonged to a special group of elite aviators, Forward Air Controllers, or FACs. The FAC mission was one of the most dangerous during the Southeast Asia war. To perform it required immense courage and devotion to duty. Because of Jerold´s courage (as attested by his Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters), his devotion to duty, and his unselfish love for his fellow man, many of our American and Allied troops survived the war in Southeast Asia to return home to their loved ones.

Rest assured, Jerold, who used the "Covey 259" FAC call signs while flying O-2 missions in Southeast Asia, will live on in the memories of his fellow FACs. I pray God will console your entire family and comfort you with fond memories of your shared lives.

In closing, if I may be of any assistance to you during this especially difficult time, please don´t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Bob Cohen, Nail238

My Barb and I were stationed with Barb and Jerry at Travis AFB in the 1980 timeframe. Just heard of Jerry's passing today. Was very sorry to hear the news. My Barb passed away in Frisco, TX in 2015. Don't know when Jerry moved to McKinney, but we would have almost been neighbors. Our prayers go out to the Weiss family. Bill and Mary Elizabeth Kehler (North Little Rock, AR)
