Jeanne Herman Obituary

Jeanne Lilly Herman Charleston - Jeanne Lilly Herman, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 5, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 in the First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting Street at 11:00 am, and visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Jeanne was born June 15, 1933 in Danville, Virginia, daughter of the late Joseph Morris Lilly and Ona Scearce Lilly. In her high school years, she enjoyed being a member of her school's basketball team. She attended Averett University and worked for the South Carolina State Ports Authority. She was a beloved and active member of First Baptist Church and especially loved singing in the Senior Adult Choir. She described being a grandmother as one of the greatest joys of her life, and that only grew when her great- grandchildren were born. Those joyous moments are remembered fondly by her grandchildren Andrew and Anna, who looked forward to every moment they could spend with their grandmother "Neanie". She is lovingly called "Saint Jeanne" by her three nieces, Ann, Emily, and Louise, along with their families. The role of mother-in-law came easily, and she cherished every moment spent with her son-in-law, Jesse. Her legacy lives on in the lives of every family member she loved, and who loved her, so dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Herman Thigpen (Jesse); grandchildren, Andrew McKenzie Thigpen (Ellie) and Anna Thigpen Ravan (Cody); and great- grandchildren, Reagan McKenzie Thigpen and Bennett Thomas Thigpen. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Dean Herman; daughter, Dean Marie Herman; and sister, Barbara Lilly Aycock. Memorial donations can be made in Jeanne's memory to First Baptist Church of Charleston. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. I just heard of Jeanne´s death through a friend of a friend. I always thought of her as a second mother, and just talked to her the first of October. I joked with her to tell Martha she had better have a big 90th birthday planned for next June and she better invite me this time! She sounded so good...my condolences to all of her family and friends who knew and loved this sweet southern lady. See you someday Jeanne.
