Jeanette Metts Obituary

Jeanette Powell Metts N. CHARLESTON - Jeanette Powell Metts, 63, of North Charleston, wife of Kenneth Allen Metts, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Sunday, June 13, 2010. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday June 16, 2010, 1:30 P.M at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Friends may call from hours of 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M this evening at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Metts was born in Lake City, SC on September 1, 1946, to the late John Timothy Powell and Annie Frances Powell. She moved to the Charleston area at the age of six months, and remained until her death. Mrs. Metts attended schools in Charleston and was a 1964 graduate of Murray High School. Upon graduation she began her career as a secretary for a Broad Street brokerage firm, Courts & Co. After two years, she entered the Civil Service arena. She was a secretary for the Security Office at the Charleston Naval Hospital for two years beginning in 1966. In 1968 she began her long career as secretary for the Head of the Psychiatric Department. There she remained for 29 years. In 1997, because of downsizing, she was transferred to the Surgical Services Department where she remained Secretary for the Head of that department until her retirement in September 2001. After retirement her life centered around her grandchildren. Watching her granddaughters play softball was her main focus in life, and she rarely missed a game. Mrs. Metts was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in North Charleston where she was the Church Clerk and past Advisory Board Member. She loved her church and her church family, and many thanks to them for their love and prayers during her long battle. Special thanks go to her dearest friend Ann Daniels and cousin Gladys Filyaw for their love and understanding during the many telephone conversations they had during her illness. Mrs. Metts is survived by her husband, Kenneth Metts of North Charleston; one daughter, Angie Botzis and her husband David of West Ashley; one brother, Charles Powell and his wife Judy of Summerville; one sister, Susie Conner and her husband Travis of Summerville; and four grandchildren, Kristal Mims Reoch and her husband Jon of Virginia Beach, Danielle Mims, Elliott Botzis and Victoria Botzis of West Ashley. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton Powell of Myrtle Beach and Ronnie Powell of North Charleston. Kenny, Angie, David, Danielle, Crystal, Victoria, Elliott, Susie, Travis, Charles and Judy,
Jim and I have been truly blessed to have known and loved "Tootsie" for the past 14 years. We have such fond memories of our cruise together, and of course going to the fair and sitting on the bench and watching others walk by; eating elephant ears and of course ice cream, and watching the kids ride. Even though we will all miss her presence, we know she is at peace now and will always be there watching over each of you through your grief and in the future. She has touched so many people through her testimony about how she lived her life here on earth and was only sad in leaving each of you, but was happy to be meeting with her Lord and Savior. Upon arrival in Heaven, she will hear Him say, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant". So let's all remember her smile and celebrate her life and how blessed we are to have shared it with her. We will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
Love to all,
Jim and Rhonda Earney
