I just learned of Jean's passing from my friend Gilda Cobb-Hunter. I was out of town when the obituary ran in the local newspaper.
I was so happy to see her after a number of years when she was working for Nick Theodore and then John Land. One of my favorite memories was going into the bathroom on her floor at the Gressette Building and she would brushing her teeth. She brushed her teeth more than anyone I know. She had beautiful teeth! (Those braces were worth it!} She was as beautiful as she was in school, where she always won the class beauty contest every year- and I always came in after her. We both were young moms and went on to raise our kids and pursue our careers. She would call at sad times in my life and I will never forget her kindness.
She was one of a kind and I am so thankful to have known her.

Dear Marshall, Emmye, Townsend and Pennie,
I am heartbroken for your loss. I loved Jeannie deeply. Her strength, independence, support, beauty and love I admired and each of these attributes made an impact on me as a young person and continue to have a positive influence in my life. If I could be at her service tomorrow and celebrate her life, I would, however work and family commitments will not allow me to do so. I know it will be beautiful and I will be thinking of you all tomorrow and the days ahead. My sincere condolences.

Jeannie's Family, it is with a broken heart that I read of Jeannie's death. When I went to work with her, she taught me so many valuable things about life and independence. I shall always treasure those times with her. Her independent spirit and kindness are characteristics that I greatly admired. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the service since I'm a patient at the SC Oncology Center here in Columbia. With all my love.
