Jean Rock Obituary
Jean "Poo" Horn Rock ALPHARETTA, GA - Jean Elizabeth (Poo) Horn Rock Jean Elizabeth Horn Rock, 72, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, after a valiant year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Despite facing four unique cancers in 5.5 years, her strong faith carried her through her illnesses and we rejoice in knowing she is with her daughter, Abigail, and Jesus in her eternal home and can finally rest. Poo was born on April 12, 1951, in Selma, Alabama, the eldest daughter of the Reverend Canon Joseph Robert Horn, III, and Jean Haden Horn. Her Mother nicknamed her Bethy Poo as a little girl and she was affectionately called Poo by family and friends her entire life, Gran Poo by her grandchildren and God Poo by her Godchildren. Poo grew up in Florence, SC, and had cherished memories of St. John's Episcopal Church where her Father served as a Priest. She often would talk about her Juanita Drive childhood home where she recalled riding bikes, hiding under dogwood trees and large azalea bushes, and exploring with her neighborhood friends. She attended McClenaghan High School and later Florence Technical College. Poo held numerous jobs that were meaningful to her through the years and had countless stories to share about them. She often spoke about Peoples Bank and Stokes Eye Clinic in Florence, SC; being the Assistant to the Dean of the Department of Psychiatry at MUSC in the late 70's/80's; and in her later years, working in retail at Carpenters Antiques and Baby Bloomers Home in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where she thoroughly enjoyed working with her clients, many of whom became good friends. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years and chaired, "The Gathering" which was a fundraiser to support the National Kidney Foundation. Poo had an uncanny ability to engage in conversations with anyone, leading to many close friendships. She had a particular love for playing cards, especially with her grandchildren, and was passionate about being Southern and an Episcopalian. She often gave her granddaughters and their friends makeovers, and always had a new makeup product ready to be tested. She would talk about her obsession with Elvis Presley and would tell entertaining stories of the numerous attempts to meet him after his concerts. She enjoyed interior design, had a wonderful sense of style and a knack of making her homes cozy and comfortable. She treasured her lifelong friendships, her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Those who survive her, mourn the loss of Poo but take heart in knowing that her legacy is in the indelible mark of love she left on every life she touched. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth McLaurin Eaddy Lausier (Matt) and three grandchildren, Kettler Elizabeth (Libby) Lausier, Shea Matthew Lausier, and Hope Abigail Lausier of Milton, GA; three sisters, Patricia Horn Ward (Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Anna Marie Horn Goad (Bill) of Charleston, SC, and Susan Horn Barnhart (Scott) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Abigail Rock; her parents, the Reverend Canon Joseph Robert Horn, III, and Jean Haden Horn; and her brothers, the Reverend Joseph Robert Horn, IV, and James Haden Horn. Funeral services followed by interment will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 1872 Camp Road, in Charleston, SC. Memorials may be made in her name to the National Kidney Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
