James Wilson Obituary

James "Jimmy" Boyd Wilson CHARLESTON - James "Jimmy" Boyd Wilson, Sr., of Charleston, SC, passed away on August 4, 2025 at the age of 100. Born on June 7, 1925 in Baker Sanitorium in Charleston, SC, James was the son of Samuel Eakin Wilson, Sr. and Mary Lucille Doar Wilson. He was named after both of his grandfathers. After graduating from the High School of Charleston, he served in the United States Merchant Marines in World War II aboard the hospital ship, Algonquin. In 1945, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline "Jackie" Buckheister, and shared 65 years with her until her death in 2010. He started his career in 1949 with Standard Oil Company and Refinery (later named Exxon) in Charleston and retired as a laboratory supervisor. He was a devoted member of Church of the Good Shepherd Anglican Church in West Ashley and a lifetime member of The Elks. During his long life he enjoyed fishing and crabbing, observing and feeding the birds in his yard, square dancing, reading, and cooking. He especially loved to make Charleston cheese wafers and chocolate chip cookies which he shared with friends. He was also known for his remarkable memory and gift for storytelling. James was amazingly independent until the end of his life, living alone and taking care of personal and household responsibilities. James was predeceased by his loving wife, Jackie, his parents and a brother, Samuel Eakin Wilson, Jr. He is survived by his son, James B. Wilson, Jr. of Summerville, SC and a nephew, Sam E. Wilson, Ill and his wife, Fran of Portland, Maine. He will be missed by his many friends. He embodied, Proverbs 17:17 "A friend loves at all times..." He was a good friend to many. A graveside service at Bethany Cemetery will be held at a later date.
