I'm saddened to learn of J.D.'s passing. During the time that I worked with him at Garrett I found him to be an excellent teacher, coach, administrator and most of all a mentor to many of the young people who attended GHS. He is leaving a legacy that will be remembered by many for years to come. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

It was 53 years ago that Coach Simpson taught me to play football on the Garrett HS JV Football Team. I'm #61. I still remember some of those teamwork lessons and DEFINITELY remember watching the 1968 World Series on Black and White TV during PE class in the 9th grade! In my young teenager eyes, he was a man I looked up to as a role model. That has never changed. May God bless you and your family in this season of sadness.

I was sadden to hear of Coach Simpson“s passing but I am so blessed to have had him in my formative years in high school. He was a great coach and in 1971 we won the 1st State Championship for Garrett High. I was fortunate to have played for coach and his mentor ship to me has had a life long positive affect on me. I have only great memories of Coach Simpson and what he did for me and countless other young men who played for him, I pray that Mrs Simpson, Cindy and Jimmy will find comfort in the fact that " Coach" changed many young lives, and our part of the world, for the better. God Bless you Coach, and thank you for everything.
