James Short Obituary

Rev. James E. Short BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, SC - Services for Rev. James Edmund "Jim" Short, 69, of Batesburg-Leesville, will be conducted on Thursday, June13th. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., at Ridge Crest Memorial Park, 329 Summerland Ave, Batesburg, SC. A celebration of life service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Leesville United Methodist Church, 510 E. Columbia Ave, Leesville, SC, with The Rev. Sandra King and The Rev. Dr. Herman R. Yoos III, presiding. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Viewing of the body will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel. Rev. Short passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, two weeks after his 69th birthday. Born in Charleston, SC son of the late Edmund Janes Short, Jr. and Marguerite Corn Short, he was a graduate of St. Andrew's Parish High School '62, Baptist College at Charleston '70, Bachelor of Arts in English and History, and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary '74 Master of Divinity. He was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for the Wesley Fellowship Class, lay minister, church council member, delegate to annual conference, and member of United Methodist Men. He was an Eagle Scout and scout leader with Boy Scouts of America and a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Shealy Short of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, daughter, Elizabeth Short, son, Edmund Short, sister, Susan McKay, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Short. "I will set my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Myself and the Earth," God said in the ninth chapter of the book of Genesis. Rev. Short lived his life with this principle in mind. Over the past sixty-nine years he has touched many lives and genuinely enjoyed getting to know people, ministering to their needs, and sharing life's stories. God's will is done, His servant's work complete. The family would like to thank the numerous kind nurses at Lexington Medical Center who cared for Rev. Short during his recent illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Leesville United Methodist Church or the American Brain Tumor Association. www.Barr-Price.com (803) 532-4411 Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
