James Seel Obituary

James Seel N. CHARLESTON - James Seel, age, 92, of North Charleston SC, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 8th 2012 at his residence. He was born in Charleston, SC on August 10th 1920 to the late George W. Seel and Susan Elizabeth Todd Seel. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Victory Medal. He worked as a Rigger at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 40 years. He was a member of Ferndale Baptist Church of which he was a member for 65 years. He enjoyed yard-work, and "hanging out" with his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud. James is survived by his wonderful wife of 70 years: Joan B. Seel of North Charleston SC; son: Jimmy Seel Jr. (Lilly); daughter: Nancy Margaret Seel Dennis and family; Grandchildren: Kimberly Dennis of North Charleston, Kelly Dennis Martin (Glenn) of Charleston SC, Kerri Dennis Shorter (Daryl) of Hanahan SC, Kristen Dennis Surface (Steve) of Hanahan SC, David Seel of St. Mary's GA, and Rebecca Seel of St. Mary's GA , and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Susan Seel, brothers: George and Earl Seel, and his sisters: Willie Mae Sweet and Ena Roberts. Funeral will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday November 10th 2012 at Ferndale Baptist Church, 4870 Piedmont Ave, Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, November 10th 2012 from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC 29406. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Mr. James Seel to Ferndale Baptist Church, 4870 Piedmont Ave, Charleston, SC 29406, or to Southern Hospice Care, 9294 Medical Plaza Drive Charleston, SC 29406-9125, or to SPCA on Remount Road, North Charleston SC. I worked with Jim at CNSYD and he was a great guy and wonderful mentor for the younger guys. He will be missed by all that knew him and it was a pleasure knowing him. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his wife and all his family.

I knew James when he was very young and his whole family lived between Woolfe and Spring Sts. on Meeting St. He was well thought of and liked by many in those early days. Condolences to his family, and May God grant you strength and love as you dearly miss him.
