James Scroggins Obituary

U.S. Navy Retired LINCOLNTON, Ga. - James Thomas Scroggins, loving husband of Mary "Bobbie" Scroggins died on Saturday, July 17, 2010. He was 69 years old. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 20 at 11 o'clock at Faith Community Church in Lincolnton, Georgia, with Reverend Addison Belangia and Paul Reviere officiating. Christian burial with full military honors will follow at Salem Baptist Church, Lincolnton, Georgia. Honorary pallbearers: Danny Turner, Jason Turner, Chris Turner, Brett Bussey, and Allen Bussey. Mr. Scroggins was born in Autaugaville, Alabama having made Lincoln County his home for the past 33 years. Mr. Scroggins served his country in the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. Upon his retirement from the United States Navy, Mr. Scroggins had a fulfilling career in the aviation industry. Mr. Scroggins was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Juanita Scroggins; son-in-law, Earnest Turner; and a grandson, Zachary Wilson. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Mr. Scroggins loved his family and his country. Survivors include in addition to his wife, Mary R. Scroggins; include a son, Daniel Bussey, and wife, Traci; daughters, Terrie Turner; Kellie Wilson, and husband, Bobby, North Augusta, SC; Lonna Brady, and husband, Jeff, Baltimore, Maryland; and Cindy Scroggins, Asheville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Danny Turner, Jason Turner, Matthew Bussey, Brandy Wilson, Christopher Turner, Ashleigh Bussey, Meagan Wilson, Kayla Brady and Austin Brady; brother Warren Scroggins, Guam; sisters, Joyce Terrell (John), Opelika, Alabama; Carolyn Elrod, and husband, Chuck of Anderson, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Scott and I worked with him at Garrett Aviation in Augusta. As gruff as he was he, in fact was just a big ole teddy bear! I loved him dearly and knew he was always someone I could go to if I needed help. Much love to his family from us.
