James Sang Obituary

James Harold Sang MT. PLEASANT - James Harold Sang, of SC, husband of Jacqueline Jacques Sang, and retired Insurance Executive, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Sang was born November 9, 1936 in Omaha, NE to Clinton H. Sang and Marion L. Sang "Jim" held a BS degree in Business from the University of Colorado, Boulder where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. On graduation he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Army. On July 22, 1961 Mr. Sang and the former Jacqueline Ann Jacques of New Orleans were married at Saint Catherine's of Siena Catholic Church in Metairie, LA. In the Army he served six years as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer and Company Commander and was an Airborne Ranger. He left the service with the rank of Captain. After leaving the service, he joined John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. as a Home Office representative in the New Orleans Group Insurance Office where he later became manager. Opportunities led Jim and family to the Cleveland Group Office as Manager. While there, he served on committees and engaged in early efforts to control health care costs while insuring high quality care. It also afforded the family, and especially the children, to experience the "Farm" life on Windy Meadow Farm, complete with horses, pigs and dogs and cats and a mischievous goat named "Jethro," a welcoming present from the insurance office. Then it was on to the Home Office in Boston where he became Executive Director of Managed Health Services, a division that employed some 250 RN's and administrative personnel involved in health care utilization review and major case management. Divestiture of that part of the business gave Jim the option to return to sales, his first love, in Dallas as Regional Sales and Service Director. Under his leadership, the office was awarded the company Vice President's trophy. Jim and Jackie retired in Dallas after 31 years with John Hancock. During his career Jim, a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Certified Group Life, Health and Pension Underwriter, was a perennial production leader and was active in many industry groups, both local and national. After retirement, Mr. Sang remained active in the community. He was a founding member of the Volunteers in Patrol and served on the neighborhood association board of directors. He and wife Jacqueline moved to Mount Pleasant in 2008 to be near their daughter, Wendy, and grandchildren. Jim felt privileged to have been a member of the Christ Our King Choir until his illness in 2013. James was preceded in death by his father, Clinton and mother, Marion. He will be remembered by his brother William L. Sang and wife, C. Ann and their son, Todd of Rockport, TX; daughter, Elizabeth (Sang) Watson of Grass Lake, MI and husband, Daniel; son, James Britton Sang and his wife, Lisa (Galvin) and grandchildren, Jonathan Marshal, Mary Elizabeth, and James Davis of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Wendy (Sang) Kelly and grandchildren, Clara Rigby and Corrine Jacques of Isle of Palms, SC. A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 10, 2013. Interment will be in New Orleans at St. Patrick's Cemetery at a date to be announced. It was Mr. Sang's wish and that of his family that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Music Ministry of Christ our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Arrangements are being handle through the J.HENRY STUHR INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Dear Jackie,
Jim and I worked together at John Hancock . He was a good fellow and will be missed. He had a great management style and always was there to help people.
Now he is in a new world and they will be better having him in their presence.
Our prayers are with you.
