James Riley Obituary

James "Jim" W. Riley, Jr. CHARLESTON - James "Jim" W. Riley, Jr., 70, of Charleston, husband of LaMond Edwins Riley, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August, 28, 2020 at 2 o'clock at Cypress UMC Cemetery for family and close friends. Please follow social distancing guidelines. The family will be accepting friends at the home of his daughter following the funeral. Jim was born on August 8, 1950, and grew up in Ridgeville. He is the son of Billie Hughes Livingston of Charleston and the late James W. Riley, Sr. Survivors, in addition to his mother, are his wife, LaMond of 49 years and his daughter, Adrienne Riley Lowe and her husband, Dr. Philip Lowe of Charleston; two grandsons: Boyd Cadet Lowe and Oliver Cannon Lowe; sister, Sandra All and husband, Frankey, of Dorchester; aunt, Bert R. Kizer, of St. George; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was a Master Barber, where his clients valued his fellowship and conversation as much as their haircut. He was known and loved by his daughter and grandchildren as "Crackerjack", his childhood nickname. He was happiest with his wife and his grandsons, either at home teaching them about carpentry and music, or at Litchfield teaching them about boating and surfing. Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to the American Heart Association at www2.heart.org or a charity of ones' choice. My boys loved going to see Jim for their haircuts. They have such fond memories of their time in his chair. I am so grateful for the part he played in their growing years.
I also loved going there and enjoying his joyful attitude and fun stories. He was a special and awesome friend.

Memories of Jim Riley are GREAT memories. His laughter was the absolute best. When LaMond and I worked together many years ago, she and Adri lovingly called Jim 'Buff'. Jim had some genuine swag in his seersucker suit and of course every hair was in place. He was a true southern gentleman. My daddy was a mentor to Jim and loved him like a son. I'm betting they're together up in heaven laughing and joking as they did back in the barber shop, and they're probably eating ice cream out of the carton with a fork as they both did here on earth. Much love and sincere condolences to LaMond and Adrienne.

LaMond, Adrienne & Philip,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Jim. I feel like I know you all, thanks to Jim's funny little stories over these many years (45?) spent in his chair. He loved you very much. The world has lost a lost a great philosopher of so many disciplines they are too numerous to list. Thank you all for sharing him with long time customers like myself, who probably ran him a little late getting home for dinner more than once. I sure will miss him. Rivers

Jim was my barber for the last six years. Sitting in his chair monthly was a special treat for me. The stories he told were worth the price of a haircut by themselves! Over that period I came to know him as a man of honesty, integrity , and wonderful humor. I will miss him greatly.
