Reverend Dr. James Daniel Riley, Jr. JACKSONBORO, SC - The relatives and friends of the late, Reverend Dr. James Daniel Riley, Jr. (68) of Jacksonboro, SC: are invited to celebrate his life and legacy, on Sunday: June 3, 2018 at one o'clock in the afternoon in the sanctuary of the Saints Center Ministries, 106 Colson Street, Walterboro, South Carolina. Interment will follow in the Temple Zion Baptist Church of Columbia, South Carolina. Visitation will be open to the public on Saturday: June 2, 2018 (12:00-4:00) at the mortuary. Wake services will follow visitation, beginning at 6:30 P.M. in the sanctuary of the Sandhill Baptist Church, 424 Railroad Street, Walterboro, South Carolina. Rev. Dr. James D. Riley, Jr., transitioned peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at his home in Jacksonboro, SC. He was born on March 16, 1950 in Jacksonboro, SC to the late Rev. Dr. J.D., Sr. and Carrie Lou Riley. Being educated in the public school of Colleton County, he received his high school diploma in 1968 from Colleton High School in Walterboro, SC. Upon completing and graduating high school he then entered college and would receive a Bachelor of Science in 1973 from South Carolina State University of Orangeburg, SC. As time passed he received his Master of Divinity Degree from Carolina Theological Bible Institution and graduated top of his class as Magna Cum Lota. Most notably and recently he received his Honorary Doctor of Humanity Degree from Caroline Theological Bible Institution in 2007. The Rev Dr. Riley was called to preach the "good news" and licensed in February 1979. Rev Dr. Riley was ordained as a preacher of the Gospel in December 1979 and accepted his first calling as pastor in October 1980. Rev Dr. Riley, Jr. has pastored at the following five churches: Free Gift Baptist, Hunters Chapel Community, and McBranch Baptist Church all of Branchville, SC; Saint Mark Baptist Church of St. George, SC; Warren Chapel Baptist Church of Orangeburg, SC; Surprise Baptist of Dorchester, SC; and Harmonia of Varnville, SC. While pastoring he has served as Moderator of the Surprise Baptist Association and Vice-Moderator of Lovely Hill Baptist Association. Dr. Rev. Riley, Jr. was employed with the Colleton County Assessor's Office, BCB Rehab of Garden Corners, SC, and the City of Charleston County Rehab and Development offices until his health failed. Dr. Rev. Riley, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife, Polly Ann Riley of 46 years, three children, Deqanda A. Riley of Columbia, SC, James D. Riley, III (Tiawan) of Columbia, SC, and Jason C. Riley (Adrione) of Atlanta, GA: eight grandchildren, Chasity Morgan, Chanelle Aiyana, Chiara Danielle, Dorian Anissa, Jason Xavier, and Cynthia Samara Riley, Marquis Murray, and Ariel Mitchell; three siblings Cynthia D. Gillum of Orangeburg, SC, Veronica Burton (Larry) of Columbia, SC and Jacqueline Owens of Myrtle Beach, SC; father and mother in law, Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin Brooks, Jr. of Walterboro, SC.; special cousins Eloise Boykins of New Jersey and Dorothy Harrison of New York; and a special brother, Henry Lee Pinckney of Walterboro, SC. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and classmates all of whom will miss him dearly.
