James Pendarvis Obituary

James Howard Pendarvis HARLEYVILLE, SC - James Howard Pendarvis, 88, of Harleyville, widower of Vernell Easterlin Pendarvis, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Victory Veterans House, Walterboro. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Harleyville Christian Church with the Reverend Stephen Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Johnston, Stacy Axson, Jamie Pendarvis, Eric Jordan, Micah Brown, and Ethan Brown. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Vickie Johnston, 128 Easy Street, Harleyville. Howard was born on January 22, 1925, a son of the late Powell and Polly Marchant Pendarvis. He was served in World War II as a gunner in the 1st Armored Division in Germany, Africa, Mediterranean, Italy and he witnessed the hanging of Mousselini and his mistress. He retired after 62 years of service as a barber in Harleyville was a member and a deacon of Harleyville Christian Church. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and the family wishes to thank Dr. Van Beth Shuler and Clifton Garten for their care. He is predeceased by siblings, Alton Pendarvis, Eric Pendarvis, L.H. Pendarvis and Annie Finley. Surviving are two sons, Kirby (Vera) Pendarvis and Tony (Amy) Pendarvis, all of Dorchester; three daughters, Vickie (Billy) Johnston, Harleyville, Jan (Cliff) Garten, Summerton, and Julie (Charles) Brown, Lane; grandchildren, Michelle (Eric) Jordan, Irmo, Jennifer (Stacy) Axson, Mt. Pleasant, Jamie Pendarvis, St. George, Kristin (Chris) Cook, Kurt Pendarvis, Columbia, Kyle Pendarvis, USN Japan, William (Debbie) Johnston, Harleyville, Micah Brown, Ethan Brown, both of Bowman, Kim (Duane) Bishop, Harleyville, Carolyn Chavis, Dorchester, Christy Scott, Walterboro and Lee Kinser, Hanahan; great-grandchildren, Jackson Jordan, Maya Jordan, Shelby Axson, Rebekah Johnston, Jenna Johnston, Ethan Cook, Ava Bishop, Ashley Mitchell, Devin Mitchell and Trevor Stephens and great-great-grandchild, Bryson Mitchell; a brother, John Clayborn (Sue) Pendarvis, St. George and a sister, Margie P.
