Dear Dr. Nelson,
I had the good fortune of spending two senior resident years under the Directorship of Dr. James Nelson at Stamford Hospital. I tried to learn as much from him in that short time as possible. Operating across the table from him was truly a privilege. He taught me to treat tissue gently, to really understand pelvic anatomy in detail, and to not fear the ureter.
He also inspired me never to forget the patient's humanity, and to enjoy teaching and passing on what I've come to learn. Adopting his high standards made me a better surgeon and a better physician to all kinds of patients. Please accept my belated condolences on his passing.
