James Mims Obituary

MIMS, James SANTEE Mr. James Allen Chick Mims, 56, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Avinger Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Davis officiating. Burial will be private. A native of St. George, Mr. Mims was the son of the late Caroll B. Mims and Margaret Patrick Mims. He was a graduate of St. George High School and a graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. Mr. Mims was a former member of the SC National Guard and was retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Santee-Cooper Country Club. Mr. Mims was a member and past master of Vance Masonic Lodge #230, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Jamil Shrine Temple, and the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Orangeburg Area Shag Club and the Palmetto Shag Club. Mr. Mims attended Elloree United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mims. Surviving are his wife, Tammy Smoak Mims and her son, Derek Gallegos, both of Santee; daughters, Carmen Willson of Wedgefield, and Brandy Metts of Lexington; grandchildren, Parker Willson, Bryce and Kelsey Metts; a sister, Cookie Mims of St. George; and a brother, Steve Mims of Dorchester. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Vance Lodge #230, C/O Cecil F.
