James was a Man's Man. He was an adventurer; an outdoorsman; fisherman; a crabber and much more. As a fellow service warrior who served in the 5th Special Forces Regiment and the CIA - I was deeply honored to know a man with such devotion to his Country; the Marine Corps; his family and wife Mary; and the city of Charleston, S.C. James chose his words carefully and respectfully. He was no stranger to hard work and work ethic. He didn't suffer fools gladly and he gave ulcers - he didn't get them. He was also a very forgiving man of the highest of possible standards. We had shared vision in that regard. We will all miss you "good sir" and rest in peace for all eternity my "brother" - knowing that we will always hold you in the highest of regards. GOD BLESS YOU JAMES CASWELL LEARD

Another Marine

December 16, 2018

Whenever I become aware that another Marine has answered his last muster, I am reminded by words in our Marines Hymn that tells us, the streets of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Stack arms and rest your pack, Marine, and take your post. You still have important work to do. Semper Fi

Mr. Jimmy captured my heart with his wit, his stories ( oh my, the stories he would tell!), but mostly, his strength and determination. It was an honor to know him and I will miss him dearly.

We remember Jim from the Secessionville Civic Club and also from the many Oyster Roast he invited us to. He was a remarkable man, very friendly, outgoing and a wonderful hard working person who loved people and his family. Thank you to the family for your friendship to us for many years. He will be greatly missed.

Mary and children...so very sorry to hear about Cas. We shared several long telephone calls and he shared lots of family history with me. It was easy to tell how much he loved his family and how much he enjoyed life. I wish I could have gone fishing with him!

God be with all of you in this time of loss and sadness.

Jim was a kind soul. Like his son, JJ, and daughter in-law, Alison, he welcomed us into his home with kindness and generosity. We only got to enjoy the garden and turtles a few time with his company but we will hold those memories dear. My heart goes out to the entire family.

My children and I were fortunate enough to visit Mr. Leard on just two occasions. He won my son over because...turtles! He won my daughter over with his funny stories. Although just being in his company twice, we will never forget him. How many people can we honestly say that about? We are grateful for him and send positive thoughts to his family.
