GOD has richly blessed him. He will maintain his career to deliver his music to GOD in heaven. I became a fan and followed him in the 80s. I have used his music at funeral services and fully feel the effects and emotions of the musics. May he RIEP. GOD bless Last.

First heard his music in Germany in 1970. After return to the US I would buy his records in Canada. Made a trip to Gera just to see him in concert. What a pleasure. So much produced in English yet no concerts in America! What a phenomenon he was!

Hansi was a big part of my life for almost 40 years. I first saw him and his wonderful orchestra in 1975/76 (Birmingham,UK) when I was just 16. I, together with my Mum,Dad and friends, traveled to many concerts both here in the UK and abroad. I have the most wonderful memories of Hansi which will live forever. I'm sure my lovely Dad and Hansi are having a good old catch up. My love, always. Margaret x

Hi James, hope you will get the message for I'm too sad not having had the opportunity to talk to you before you left us. We talked once on the phone when your secretary in Hamburg was ill and you answered the phone personnally. I was amazed how humble you are. On one of your latest concerts in Zurich I was so happy to touch your big and worn hands, nothing to do with superstar hands, but rather ordinary people's hands. Your concert at Royal Albert Hall this 31st March was just extraordinary. Not the first one I attended. Your music accompanied me for over 40 years, and certainly will keep doing so for the rest of my life. You left but your music will remain, an enormous patrimony for humanity. Bye Hansi, Gian Pietro (called Jean-Pierre) from Venice, Italy (now living in Lausanne, Switzerland)

Unfortunately, I only discovered James Last and his music a few months ago but have listened to it almost daily since. He was truly a gifted man and quite obviously loved the sharing of his gift with the world. In the giving of themselves to all of us, he and his orchestra have left much for the world to enjoy and for which we will forever be thankful. His death is a great loss to the world of music.

Morgens Um Sieben: Hansi has gone.
Together with James Last, called Hansi by his fans, a legend has gone. The message came to me early in the morning. That's why I had to think about his super composition Morgens Um Sieben'
He had a unique gift to make make all kinds of Music attractive for all of his fans and till the last moment he attracted young people because of his arrangements of the most modern music. He, who never wanted to stop, has been stopped from above', just after he considered to go on, although he performed his last Last tour in April this year in Koln.
Besides a great musician, he was a very humble person in the first place. By far not a superstar who uses to look down upon his fans. I had the honor to know him personal. He might be the only artist who invites his fans to his sound check. Also afterwards one could have a drink in the hotel in which he stayed with his orchestra, even have a toast with him! He hated being a superstar! With pleasure he lifted a child upon the stage. Me and another Dutch fan made Photo books from the concerts which was appreciated very much by Hansi!
Two years ago I took my 90-year old mother with me to the Last concerts. After the last Last concert in Hamburg he spook with her for 5 minutes, from which I made a picture. (Pure accidentally I had contact a week ago with his wife Christine about this picture.) After my mother died two weeks later on, in Switzerland, exactly two years ago, he just called. He just called to say he was very impressed by the way I took care for her and made it possible for her to enjoy the concerts. That was very typical for the human being Hans Last. A unique musician and human being has gone who will be missed seriously: by his fans, his family and Last but not least, by his wife, Christine
But maybe, he makes Music again above, with his great fiend Jochen Ment: two years ago a whish came from the public during the concert to have Biscaye being played. Hansi answered: this won't be possible because my friend Jochen Ment is in heaven and watches from there to us all Let us hope that those both, perhaps together with other old band members like Derek Watkins end Gunter Platzek will keep on watching us!!!

After 45 years of following the Gentleman of Music, a friend and I felt it right to attend the Cologne concert on 26th April 2015. We had already been to both London concerts but felt the need to go to the last Last show. By coincidence, we ended up in the same hotel as Hansi and the band and were able to spend time with him even though he was obviously tired. It was obviously meant to be. Hansi - you will remain in our hearts and minds forever and your music will outlive us all. Thank you for your devotion to your fans and the humility shown throughout your musical life. Thank you for the music. Our condolences go out to Christine and the family. Paul Coulson

In fond and loving memory of Hansi, thank you James for gracing us with your melodies and music in Tralee Ireland in 1983. We will never forget you. Mark Leen Tralee
James Will Last Forever. Mark Leen
The first I heard of it was when my father called me to tell me the news, James Last has died. I was stunned into silence at the thought of it. My father knew I had been in negotiation with Semmel Concerts in Germany to try to Bring Back Last to Kerry one more time.
We were at an advanced stage, it started with a formal request 2 years ago which went through Germany to Florida where he lived. The reply came within a week, Dear Mr Leen, James Last has the fondest of memories of your home and he would be honoured to return to Tralee.
Obviously negotiations took place and we reached a figure to have James and 97 others come from America and parts of Europe to play Tralee as part of his planned final tour of 2015. It was going to be called The Last Tour. I had spoken to some people of means to help me to guarantee the event and all was looking very good.
I tried to get on with my work throughout the day upon hearing the sad news, but the thoughts flooded my mind. As a proud Tralee man I say, when someone lifts up Tralee, they lift up all of us who love her. James and his Orchestra came and played in 1983 to a capacity crowd in The Austin Stack Park.
The picturesque setting among the mountains in the Vale of Tralee was idyllic and the Orchestra wore Roses on their lapels as a mark of respect to our town and festival. James Last donned the no 21 Kerry Jersey as the Orchestra played The Rose of Tralee. The song has never sounded better, and tears started to flow as hearts melted and the 20,000 strong crowd sang along. Summer in Dublin, The Banks of my own Lovely Lee, Irish Eyes and Irish Stew. A sterling and virtuoso performance was given and coming to the end of the evening, dancing in the dark the crowd cried out to the German Legend for more, he turned affectionately to set his gaze on them, he called out to thank everyone. In his German accent he told them how he loved Tralee and said he would return one day.
This was the promise that fashioned my dream to try to get him to return. The last song he played sounded to me like Forever and Ever by Demis Roussos but it was in fact called The Games that Lovers Play, and it was haunting. I drove my car as the Sun set over Tralee on Wednesday Evening, the first Sun set since James parted this world. The sky was a red hue and I had James Last on the stereo.
I decided to drive to Austin Stack where he played park as it seemed fitting. As my luck would have it, the gates were open and I just drove in there with the car and I sat and looked out on the field with James Last playing away on the system. The Sky was too beautiful for words and with tears I said a prayer of thanks to The Lord for James Last's beautiful Soul. I stared out on the football pitch where he thrilled over 20,000 people. It was silent now. I thanked God for his talent and I said, if the choirs and orchestras of Heaven need a conductor and arranger, look out because here comes the Maestro. We have had great performers down through the years at The Rose of Tralee, Joe Dolan, Brendan Bowyer and DJ Curtin, The Beautiful South and James Brown, but the finest of times our beloved Tralee ever witnessed was The Maestro James Last being paraded past 40,000 people through the Rose of Tralee Parade waving at his fans and then filling the air with the sweetest sounding music any ear could hear. Thanks for the Memories James, we will never forget you nor ever see your likes again. May the sod rest gently upon you and may the sweetest music Heaven can play be sounding as you arrive. Rest in Peace.
