James Lancaster Obituary


LANCASTER, JR., James James Edgar Lancaster, Jr., 70, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died January 12, 2007 following a brief illness. The relatives and friends of James (Jim) Lancaster are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at two o'clock. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Mount Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to the service. Mr. Lancaster was born April 24, 1936, son of the late James E. Lancaster, Sr. and Julia Kathryn Lands Lancaster Bryant. He graduated from Gaffney High School in 1954 and Wofford College in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Business Administration. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and served from November 1958 to November 1967 obtaining the rank of Captain. His army career took him to Korea, Germany and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Jim entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1968 and worked in the Counterintelligence Division of the FBI in New York City, NY. He transferred to the Charleston FBI office in 1978. While in Charleston he worked a variety of cases, his most significant involving the arrest of an East German Spy. He retired in 1988 and founded AJL & Associates, a Private Investigative Firm. He was a Mason in good standing since 1960. In retirement, he was very active with the Retired FBI Agents Association. He is survived by a daughter, Julia Lancaster Paul and her husband, Robert Ryan Paul, Sr., two grandchildren, Robert (Bobby) Paul, Jr. and Jamie Kathryn Paul, all of Winter Haven, Fl. He is also survived by several cousins and his longtime companion, Karen Bergman of Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, P.O. I am so sorry for your lost your Dad, he was wonderful man. Jim help me durning one of the hardest times of my life. We always keep in touch. He touch my life in a very special way. He will always hold a spot in my heart and will be missed. You are very special to have had a father like Jim. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am very sorry for your loss. Jim was an excecptional person. It has been over 23 years since I last saw him, but he was a savior to me. Hard to believe that this has come to pass. You should be very proud of your Dad, he was truely exceptional.
