James Tobin Hill Jr.

James Hill Obituary

James Tobin Hill, Jr. SUMMERVILLE - James Tobin Hill, Jr., "Jimmy", 55 of Summerville, SC, passed away on January 25, 2023. He is predeceased by his parents, James Tobin Hill and Barbara Lynch Hill; and he leaves behind three siblings, Cathryn Ann Mahon (Todd), David Anthony Hill (Amy, Riley, Grace, Adam), and his twin sister, Mary Clare Gatch (Mike, Jimmy, Liz, Drew and Anna). Jimmy, who his family came to call Jimmy Hill, so as not to confuse folks with the other 'Jimmys' in the family, was a treasure to them. He lived a life that made theirs better. Through the years, his abilities and challenges changed, and in 1976, his father (parents) took a compassionate military reassignment to Charleston so that Jimmy could be placed at the Coastal Center in Summerville, SC. The school provided classes so Jimmy could communicate through his issues of blindness, deafness, autism, and Down's Syndrome and offered Jimmy the best education and safest situation possible. Like his family, Jimmy's caregivers and teachers loved him very much, ensuring he could reach his fullest potential and lead a joyful life. There are many stories of this wonderful man expressing himself musically, expressing his thanks to his family, and yes, expressing his displeasure in their decisions for lunch, wearing shoes (or whatever). The family will save some stories for friends and other loved ones in person, as those are their treasures as well. Jimmy's family is deeply grateful for the ongoing love and support of friends and is planning Jimmy's memorial for a time in the future. In lieu of flowers, they ask for consideration of donations made in his name to the Coastal Center at 9995 Miles Jamison Road, Ladson, SC 29456, or the ICU Department at Trident Medical Center at 9330 Medical Plaza Drive, North Charleston, 29406.
