James Hill Obituary

James Ronny Hill Moncks Corner - James Ronny Hill, 71, of Moncks Corner, SC, passed away at this home on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Ronny was born July 26, 1950, the son of the late Walter H. Hill and the late Pearl James Hill of North Charleston, SC. Ronny leaves behind his devoted wife, Debra C. Hill, of Moncks Corner, SC; his two daughters, Lisa Rae Hill (Nate), of North Charleston, SC and Jamee Allene Hill (Ryan) of Charleston, SC. In addition he leaves behind his grandson, Samuel James McMurry. Ronny graduated from Chicora High School and The Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern). He continued his studies at the Darden School of Business in Accounting. Ronny began his career as a civilian working as an Accountant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and after its closing moved to SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Atlantic), where he was awarded the Navy's Meritorious Civil Service Award. Before his retirement, Ronny became the Deputy Comptroller and eventually Comptroller of SPAWAR. He loved traveling with his beloved wife. He considered all life precious and definitely made a difference for wildlife in his time. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed traveling, playing Tennis, Table Tennis, Pickle Ball, Horseshoes, and Corn Hole and competing yearly in state and National Senior Olympics. Ronny holds many gold, silver and bronze medals won at these events. He also holds a medal won in the Las Vegas National Open Table Tennis Competition and another in the National Senior Olympics competition in Horseshoes. Ronny enjoyed time with his family, and keeping up with his many friends. He was especially excited about being a new granddaddy to Sam. He was an active member of Cherokee Place United Methodist Church since birth. Ronny was known to be genuinely kind and caring. He was much respected and much loved by his many friends and especially his family. Ronny loved life and lived lifelong as an example to others of God's love. He will be deeply missed. A Celebration of his Joyous Life will be held this Saturday, October 1 at Goose Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Red Bank Road in Goose Creek. Visitation will be at 2:00 in the sanctuary and the service will be at 3:00. To Debby, family and friends. I met James(Ronny) this year as we became Cornhole Doubles Partners in the Senior Olympics. The short time I spent with him in Fort Lauderdale left a life impression on me as if I knew him all my life. He actually helped me become a better player. I got the feeling he never had an enemy in his life he was everything I would ever want to be. He boosted about Debby who he was blessed with as a wife. He told me several times thats the kind of women I need. I wanted to attend his Celebration of life. But unfortunately between the Hurricane and a Senior Games Cycling event in La. I couldn't attend. RIP my Friend and Bless Debby, and his entire family.

Dear Debbie and family
I was so very saddened to learn of Ronnie's passing.
What a kind and true person. He will always be remembered by our family as a cherished friend and coworker of my husband Ken. I tried telling him about Ronnie but he could not comprehend because of his illness but I know he loved him and appreciated Ronnies' visits. Please know that we pray for your peace and comfort as you cherish your memories. The Blues Brothers Forever. Much love, Ken and Vivian Johnson

Everyone knows Ronny´s career achievements raising to his final position at such a huge corporation like SPAWAR was amazing. But in my mind all that is nothing compared to how he conducted himself outside his work & his high sense of morality & ethics. There are way too many things I am aware of and too many to mention. But I will mention one thing that may be small & very few people knew, which is that tabletennis continues to exist for Charleston area (in Hanahan) after I left ONLY because of his selfless initiative when I was all but set to close operations as I had already moved permanently to another city. It has not hit me yet as to how much I will miss him & since it was so sudden. I was so blessed to have him as my friend,. RIP

Dear Debbie, and family, I was saddened when I heard this news. I knew Ronny and his mother when I was a little girl, and from Chicora High and Cherokee Place Church. He was one of the sweetest, most caring people I knew. There was never a question about how much he loved his mother. I often thought of him as a little brother . Always respectful and kind. I am so glad that I knew him. - I pray that you cherish all the good times y'all shared. May the peace of God comfort you during this time.

Ronny was a valued and gifted member of our Tenistos Viejo group, made up of retirees from SSC, playing almost weekly for the past several years. I can attest that he was a strong competitor, always giving his best at whatever challenge he took on. I remember especially the way he cared for his Mom during her declining years, and like his Mom, believe he now lives in a more restful place, and will always be remembered through the lives of his family and many friends and acquaintances.
And exemplary of the life that Ronny lived, he often appended to emails a statement that pretty well sums up the kind of life he lived. It has stuck with me ever since Ronny first quoted it, and I´m repeating it below for Ronny.

"Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man himself will not find peace." --- Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Sam lost a grandfather, Rae and Jamee lost a father, Debbie lost a husband, Kathy and I lost a friend but Heaven gained a true saint. The world is worse off without Ronny Hill.

Dear Debbie,
I did so love your Ronny. He and his mother played a big role in my life at Cherokee Place. He was such a sweet guy and I know you shared a deep love with him. You are strong and your life together was a special gift. I pray for your comfort, just knowing your best friend is still loving you from above. Carolyn
