James Hathaway Obituary

James "Jim" Warren Hathaway SUMMERVILLE - James "Jim" Warren Hathaway, 70, of Summerville, husband of Barbara Jones Hathaway, entered into eternal peace on Friday evening, February 17, 2012 at his home. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 1 o'clock at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Goose Creek. Rite of Committal with Final Commendation will be held at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Community Center from 11:30 until 12:30. Viewing in the church from 12:30 until service time at 1 o'clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Heartland Hospice, 1064 Gardner Road #204, Charleston, SC 29407 or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445. Mr. Hathaway was born July 20, 1941 in Jamestown, NY, son of the late Arthur and Helen Hathaway. He was a graduate of Academy High School and Florida Junior College. He was a veteran of the US Navy. After retiring from the military, he worked many years at Publix. He was an avid bowler, a talented artist and design-builder of furniture. He was a member of the Charleston Rifle Club, B.P.O Elks Lodge 242, American Legion Post 166 and the Fleet Reserve Association 269. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons: David Hathaway (Virginia) of Summerville and Phillip Hathaway (Sabrina) of Olivebridge, NY, one daughter: Heidi Hathaway of Palm Bay, FL, two sisters: Shirley McKenzie (Jessie) of Girard, PA and Carol Jean Kirk (Bill) of Wichita Falls, TX, and aunt Irene Golab of Roseville, Ca, two granddaughters: Jasmine Hathaway of Summerville and Victoria Hathaway of Olivebridge, NY, a step daughter: Penny Spell of Kinston, NC, five step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children: Constance Lee Johns, eleven uncles and three aunts. Jim will be missed very much. He bowled with our team, Chas Electrical, for years and enjoyed the Rifle Club very much-dancing and etc. We knew he was very sick when he could not finish the second game of bowling. From his bowling team mates and George Kornahrens-May God Bless Him

It was good seeing Jimmy and Barbara a few summers ago when they came out west for a vacation. Jimmy was a very talented fellow who will be missed by many. Our deepest condolences to Babara.
