James Harrod Obituary

James Gordon "Jim" Harrod GOOSE CREEK - James Gordon "Jim" Harrod, 82, husband of Drusilla West Harrod, of Goose Creek, died October 6, 2012 surrounded by his family. Born August 19, 1930 in Highland Home, Alabama, he was the son of the late James G. Harrod, Sr. and Willie Dell Morris Harrod. He attended University of Alabama and had a successful military career, having served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He retired as Lt. Colonel after 20 years of service in 1972. Jim also retired from the Naval Shipyard after 20 years. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years; his daughters, Terri Marino, Kim Archer and Jami Burt; his son, James Gordon Harrod; his step-son, Mark Cooper; and his five grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 4-6PM at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL, 869 ST. JAMES AVE. Funeral service to follow and begin at 6PM in the chapel. Interment will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Lancaster Memorial Park Cemetery, Lancaster, SC. Memorial contributions may be sent in Jim's memory to a charity of your choice. I have not seen Col. Harrod since I was a boy at the Charleston Air Force Base golf course but can tell you he was as good hearted as he was colorful and the world will be a little less cheery without him as part of it. My sincerest condolences to all of the family I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
