James Gladden Obituary

GLADDEN, James LEXINGTON James Wyman Gladden, 69, husband of Linda Moore Gladden, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007. He was born in Great Falls, S.C., on June 19, 1938, and was the son of the late James Alexander and Jessie Margaret Gladden. Mr. Gladden was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and earned his Master's degree from Appalachian State University. He came to Lexington in 1969 as principal of Lexington High School. He later worked in banking and as a real estate appraiser. After returning to education administration with Lexington School District One, he retired in 2001 as the Transportation Coordinator for the district. He was an active member of Lexington United Methodist Church. He was an avid Gamecock fan and treasurer of the Lexington County Gamecock Club. He served on the Town of Lexington's Building Codes Board of Adjustment for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Lexington Cotillion and a former member of the Lexington Lions' Club. He enjoyed golfing at the Country Club of Lexington where he had been a member for more than 35 years. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda Moore Gladden; daughter, Meg Eliatamby and her husband Deepal of Columbia; daughter, Karen Samples and her husband Steve of Newnan, GA; granddaughter, Kaylin Dorothy Samples; sister, Peggy Williford and her husband Bill of Summerville; sister, Carol Stall and her husband Bobby of Summerville; uncle, Claude Spencer of Bryson City, NC; seven nieces and nephews and many other relatives and dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at Lexington United Methodist Church, with visitation following in the Fellowship Hall. A private burial service will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LUMC Building Fund, 309 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.
