James Gatlin Obituary

James Marion Gatlin CHARLESTON - It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our brother, James Marion Gatlin, on April 19, 2025. Jimmy was born in Charleston, SC on October 30, 1952 to Charles Durwood Gatlin and Elizabeth Hamlin Gatlin. He was co-owner in Gatlin's Landscaping with his identical twin, Bobby, for over 45 years. Jimmy enjoyed playing billiards, listening to music, adored his dogs and loved his landscaping work, making properties beautiful. Jimmy is survived by his brothers, Bobby Gatlin, Jack Gatlin and his sister, DeDe Tyler, nephews, Robert E. Coltrane, Jr. of Charleston, Charles Gatlin, III of Round Rock, Texas and niece, Elizabeth Gatlin of El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, step-mother, Bobbie Jean Gatlin and his brother, Charles Durwood Gatlin, Jr. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the many Doctors and caregivers at MUSC, also the Dialysis Clinic of Charleston that helped Jimmy throughout his last several years. Please join the family for his Celebration of Life, held graveside on Tuesday, April 29, 11:00am, at Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunningham St., in the Greenhill section. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Rd. or the National Kidney Foundation.
