I was saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. French. I met in a couple of times in the 1980s. I noted the comment in the obituary by Rep. Gilliard of the Chronicle's office at the corner of King and Wolfe. My father Israel Altman was his landlord. On my father's death in 1993, Mr. French wrote the most beautiful tribute to him called "A Man Who Cared". Our family thinks of it and the man who wrote it often. Mr. French did much for the entire community by making us all aware. He will be missed by the entire Charleston Community.
