James Foster GRAY, TN - James Edward Foster, age 91, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at The Blake at Kingsport. He was born in Amherst, Virginia, a son of the late Robert Percy Foster and Dorothy Henderson Foster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Treva Hix Foster; brother, Robert Owen (Jake) Foster and wife, Christine; and brother, Aubrey Lester Foster and wife, Betsy. James (Jim) was a Veteran of the Virginia Army National Guard. He was owner and operator of Superior Diesel Inc. for 50 years and the Turbo Center Inc. in North Charleston, SC. Jim was an active member of Northbridge Baptist Church, Charleston, SC, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for junior boys. He was also active in Freemasonry as a member of Solomon's Lodge #1, AFM, Charleston, SC, where he worked through the Chairs and served as Worshipful Master in 1984. Jim also became a 32* Freemason with the Scottish Rite in 1977. Jim was also an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and watching all types of wildlife. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and served on committees with the Swamp Fox Chapter in Moncks Corner, SC. He was also a member of several Hunting Clubs in the area: Wragg Barony, Dorchester County, SC where he bagged his largest deer and several turkeys; Berkeley Hunt Club, Berkeley County SC; and Mepkin Hunt Club, Moncks Corner, SC. Jim is survived by his wife of 23 years, Diane Foster; three brothers, William (Buddy) Carlton Foster and wife, Stella, of Baltimore, MD, Cecil Wayne Foster and wife, Nancy, of Monroe, VA, and Kenneth Reginald Foster and wife, Mary, of Dry Fork, VA; one sister, Myrtle Elizabeth Shaner, of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also surviving is son, Mark Edward Foster and wife, Tammie, of Goose Creek, SC, son, Christopher Adam Martin of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Meredith Martin Collins and husband, Rob, of Kingsport, TN; grandson, Matthew James Foster and wife, Alyson, and children, Zoey and Gabriel Foster, of Summerville, SC; grandson, Robert Glenn Hight, of Blountville, TN. Jim leaves behind several nieces and nephews and extended family who assisted in any way possible during the last few years, especially David and Joy Foster. Jim had a special bond with Dean and Dawn Wilson of Moncks Corner, SC along with Hadleigh and Reid (who lovingly called his pseudo-grands). The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Memory Care at The Blake in Kingsport, TN and Gentiva Hospice for all the love, kindness and care that was shown to Jim or Jimbo for the last two years. He truly loved you all. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to your local wildlife organizations or church. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Lynchburg, VA.
