Vivian,
Kromer and I were sorry to hear of Jim's death. Mary Mac and I talked about you two within the last week after seeing a picture of you in a recently published book, "Remembering Dillon County", by Carley Wiggins. You were in a picture with H. E. Corley, Elizabeth Hindrix, and James Braboy.
With sympathy to you and the family.

Dear Arthur & Family: Mary & I and our family all offer prayerful thoughts at this hour as you gather to honor God's love in your dad's witness and to celebrate his life. I shall always be grateful for his ministry insofar as he set standards of faithness and professional excellence among us. As a young man nurtured in the Myers Park congrgation during Dr. Fogartie's tenure as its pastor, I hold fond memories of confirmation, especially, as well as leaving worship with a genuine sense of having encountered God full-bore: in grace, glory, and demand. I owe my call to ordination to him significantly and I shall miss him. Do embrace your family for us; we think of Drew and her kind spouse, Michael Heid with special concern and joy.

Art, Jim anda Elizabeth: I am so very saddened to hear of your father's death. `How greatly I respected him and how close I he allowed me to feel to him as a child, which I loved then but I reflect on with such respect.
I am Joan Pierce Edgerton. My father was Grainger Pierce. We lived four doors up from you on the same block on Roswell Avenue in Charlotte. My father and your dad had such a special relationship which meant so much to my father. Your dad would often share upcoming sermon ideas with my dad, who was at myers park Methodist, and they would share ideas and reflections. I think they meant a lot to each other.
I wish that I had known that he was in Spartanburg for the last years for I would have surely gone to thank him for all that he meant to me and to my dad. His memory has often served me to be meaningful to young folks in my life who will, llike your dad, give nothing in return to me but perhaps will be there for someone in future years as a result of a present kindness earlier in life. How very kind and gentle your dad was to me yet a strong and close spiritual companion to my dad for those 15 years that we were neighbors. I think my dad felt as if your dad was the son he never had. They were a blessing to each other.
Do know that I hold you in my prayers. I have followed each of you through the years and I know your dad was so proud of each one of you.
May God be with you in this time of loss. May you always know how much your dad meant to me, as a little child and to my dad for so many years untill his death.
God bless.
Joan Pierce Edgerton

Vivian and Family, I was distressed to read about Dr. Fogartie in today's Charlotte paper. We are never ready to give up our loved ones and the only comfort comes from our Faith in the Sovereignty of God and the manifested concern of caring friends. We are thinking of you and will hold you in our prayers. We just hope in some small way it does help to know others do care. It has been a lot of years since we were together at Old Flora McDonald.
