Mrs. Fields and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Fields' passing. As his secretary at Ben Tillman I remember how hard he fought and how much he gave of himself to try to make a difference for the students. He was a father figure to so many and they all loved him dearly. I later learned that he was part of God's plan for me as a path for my life was laid before me and made clear to me during my time as secretary at Ben Tillman. It was there I realized I was meant to be a teacher. I went back to school and became a first grade teacher. At Ben Tillman Mr. Fields used to say, "You must beleive, to achieve!" I taught this to my students as well. The lessons I learned watching Mr. Fields as I worked with him helped lead me to fulfill my own purpose in this world. I have always considered him a mentor and a friend. I know he touched the lives of many and now it is time for each to see that touch is passed on.

My heart and prayers are with you all. Please know I am grateful for those 7 years we worked together and became friends, and I have many fond memories from him finding a kitten I hid in the office closet to the day he was ordained. He certainly served the Lord well.
Prayers and Love,

Coach Fields , my thoughts and prayers are with your family. The God of all comfort will surely comfort you during this time. I pray you take comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed home in heaven in the arms of the Father. The bible says , "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints". Your father was precious to all of you and precious to his heavenly Father. And how precious are the many memories of times shared with your father that will continue to live on with you and your family. Jesus said, "My peace I give unto you..." And the peace of God surpasses all understanding and shall keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

To Aunt Inez Fields and family of the late great man of God, Rev. James R. Fields, please know that I'm grieving as well and my prayers & condolences are with you. Uncle Jimmy in my young age was like a father figure to me. And at some years later as God called me into ministry, I used him as a role model to follow. His voice was Godly and so was he. I know Uncle Jimmy is singing in that Heavenly Choir while Wilhelmina playing that piano. I'm asking The Father to cover and comfort you in this time of bereavement & celebration of his life. God Bless You and I Love You! To God Be The Glory!

Mrs. Fields and Family,

Once again, the Bonds-Wilson Cobra Family has suffered a great loss. In the days ahead, we will continue to pray God's Blessings upon your family, as you seek peace and understanding during this most difficult time.

I'm glad to have been among the group that honored Mr. Fields and many other Faculty Members from Bonds-Wilson High School, during the most recent King Cobra Awards Program. It was great to see him surrounded by many of his former players.

I know that I speak for other members of the Cobra Family when I say, "Once a Cobra, always a Cobra".

Mr. James R. Fields will always be remembered for the contributions he made, and the lives he touched as he passed this way. May his soul rest in peace.

Respectfully,

Many Condolences to Mrs. Inez Fields and Family
We are unable to attend the services of Rev. James R. Fields (Mr. Fields) as we called him during our childhood and adult lives. We shall always cherish great and loving memories while growing up and seeing him as recent as last Christmas. Words such as our family member, mentor, neighbor, pastor, friend, teacher, coach, choir member, soloist, community leader, everyone's friend, etc., certainly come to our minds as we reflect upon the life of Mr. Fields for more than 50 years. May the many gifts which he shared with others bring happiness and joy to you during this time.

Each time that we are home, Mr. Fields is always filled with great spirits. We pay tribute to him at this time.

Our prayers are that we are comforted by God, great memories, family and friends. His great sense of humor allows us to also smile at this time. We know that he would now say, "Keep on Living". Our brother, Charles, will let us hear if you are fine.

With love,

Mrs. Fields & Family:
I have so many positive memories of your loved one, and they all point to the reality of a special gift from God; he was an educator and coach, where he shaped the minds and world views of members of my generation, and molded the moral character of young men on the rewards of hardwork, fair play and focus. He was an administrator; it was clear to every one that he was destined to mentor his peers and shape the character of young people. He was a minister, which in my minds eye, he refined all of his former experiences into the gem of his existence, which was to serve his fellow man. Last, but certainly not least, Rev. James Fields was a husband, father, and grandfather, who lived an exemplary life. I thank God for sending him to us, and I thank you, his family for sharing him with us.May he Rest in Peace, and may each of you find solace in the fact that he did well while he was among us, and God certainly has a special place for him.

Dear Mrs. Fields, Margo and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Fields was always so very kind to me at the start of my teaching in Charleston County. He would but a smile on my face and help me realize the important things in life. He touched alot of hearts and minds.

Not, how did he die, but how did he live?
Not, what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man, as a man, regardless of his birth.
Nor what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with words of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away?

March 17, 2012

When I first met Rev. and Mrs. Fields, they were singing duets and with the choir at Plymouth Congregational Church. What a joy they were to hear. Rev. Fields represented the scripture well: "Many gifts, one gift-giver."

Life is eternal, and God is Life. When we go through the paradox called death, it becomes the portal into Life eternal in Oneness with Spirit. Bless and release him. His was a life well-lived.

He is free and unlimited with no chains to bind him; the "coats of skin" having melted away, he lives in another realm. Bid him a good-night/morning, as he lives somewhere beyond the sunset where there is no darkness in the Light. When we face the SON, we never see shadows.

"Though his soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect Light. He loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night." (Unknown)
