James Fields Obituary

Fields Family,
When James would come into the NASA cafeteria we would have a good chat. He would say "Penny" and the conversation would occur. I really enjoyed talking with him. I had been stressing for awhile and in he walked one day and asked me if I lived in a certain area and if I had assistance in moving. James told me not to worry he would have someone come to my rescue. Sure enough 2 trucks showed up to help me move. I don't know how he knew about my troubles but as always he was there to help. I will really miss James. He was a good, caring man.

My Prayers and thoughts go out to the Fields family. I met Mr. Fields last year at Nasa Langley. He is the kind of guy that you do not forget after just one meeting. He leaves an impression of hope and joy that you do not forget. Fields family continue to live out his legacy.

Tre'Asia,
I am just finding out about the death of your father. As you know he was responsible for me bringing a group of kids to the Battle of the Bands and Battle of the drummers competition. He was also a very good friend of mine since our college years. I regret that I was unable to attend the funeral because I did not know of his death until Thursday, April 24th. Just know that my prayers are with you and your family. He will truly be missed by me and my family.

The loss of James continues to weigh heavy on my heart and life. And although i only got to share a couple of years with him I feel your pain greatly. He changed my life in the most profound ways and his love gave me the strength to grow and see life differently. I am saddened that the burden of losing him rest on your shoulders and every day I pray that God would begin to manifest the HIS Glory through you. Champ DJ and TreAsia over the years I not only loved your father I grew to love you guys too. And while you are grieving I am grieving with you. Your father was a great man that showered me with love and affection from the moment we met. I was only his girlfriend but he was very important to me. I just heard of this awful news today, Friday April 18. I worked with James at Langley and enjoyed knowing him these last 10 years or so. He was a wonderful man and will be missed. My greatest condolences to his family.

Mr. and Mrs. Fields, Loretta, Vivian, Champ-AKA Scoop, TreAsia, DJ and D'Joris, I will truly miss Scoop. So many years of growing up in the same neighborhood (Vanderhorst St, CHS), and to meet again and keep in touch once I got back to my home in Virginia awesome. He was always right on time when I needed help or someone to talk to. He was a God send. He also never hesitated to call if he needed something or just to talk. I would like to express my sympathy and to let you all know you can call me any time. If Mr. and Mrs. Fields need anything while in town please call. D’Joris has my cell phone number. Champ, DJ and TreAsia, we were all so sorry to hear about your father. Sorry we were't able to be there for you at the funeral, but know you and your family are in our prayers.

I was so saddened when I heard about Fields. I was blessed to have known him at NASA, at MSBC, and in Ministry Gospel Choir. Hold tight to each other. I'm praying for your strength and that with each passing day, your memories increase and the pain decreases. God bless.

Our hearts are filled with pain, but we are rejoicing that our brother is now in the presence of our Holy Father where he will never experience heartaches or pain. Champ, TreAsia and DJ just remember how much he loved the three of you and how proud he was of you. The wonderful memories you have of him are yours, so hold on to them and continue to trust God and he will guide you through. We love you and will keep you in our prayers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Know that Scoop was a gentle person. It gave him joy to be used of the Lord to do that which he was called to do and you could tell that he did it with great passion. He had a great love for his family and his friends. He was such an inspiration in putting together the Fields-Steplight Family Reunion (which was birthed out of his love for his family). One of the last remarks that Scoop made in my presence in December 2007 was "We WILL have a family reunion this year (2008)!" We just didn't know it would be like this.

Jame's dedication to the children of Jamaica; his guidance, support, enthusiasm and love were evident to all who took the time to watch and listen to him. He was for us, a living example of Christ's love in this world as he gave so freely of himself to benefit others. Indeed, his life was a gift to many of us.

When the world has used the books over and over, and the cover is beaten and tattered, The Story is still precious to God. He takes his precious book back to heaven, where He gives us a new cover, and He places us in the Library of the Angels. I knew James from work here at NASA Langley in Hampton Virginia. We became friends during his work here in the Fabrication Technology section. He seemed to always have a smile on his face and a warm greeting for everyone. He truly will be missed by his friends and co-workers here at Langley. My prayers are with the family at this time. We have lost a great person. I am a Burke Band parent and had the honor of spending Spring Break '07 with Scoop in Virginia. He made sure Burke Band was well taken care of. We saw him at work at NASA and the people made us feel right at home. It was a great experience for myself and the band. He loved working with the drummers. He will be missed but he was greatly appreciated for the things he has done here and abroad. "MAY THE WORK I'VE DONE SPEAK FOR ME!"
