James Falkenstein Obituary

FALKENSTEIN, James James Edwin "Ed" Falkenstein, 85, of Myersville, Md., died Thursday, November 6, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his son Ed Falkenstein and wife, Barbara, of Mount Pleasant; his daughter, Kathy Falkenstein Lesser and husband, Tom, of Frederick, Md.; his brother Robert Falkenstein and wife, Betty, of Frederick; two grandchildren, Katy and John Edwin Lesser; three nephews and one niece. Ed took special pride in the success of his son, Ed, and enjoyed helping out at Palmetto Brewing Company when he was able to visit. Ed was born September 25, 1923, in Oakland, Md., and was the son of the late Walter R. and Dottie M. Doman Falkenstein. His beloved wife, Louyse Eldridge Falkenstein, preceded him in death in 1999, as did his sister, Doris Falkenstein Shafer, in 1979. Ed was a 1941 graduate of Middletown (Md.) High School and a veteran of World War II having served as a surgical technician with the United States Army 71st Evacuation Hospital from 1943-1946. After returning from his tour of duty he drove a school bus and worked with his father at Peoples Supply Company in Myersville until it's closing. Ed then worked as a plumber for the Frederick County Board of Education. After his retirement he enjoyed delivering cars for several local dealers. Ed had been an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville, and sang in the church choir, and sang barbershop with the Frederick Catoctones. He was a proud and active member of the Myersville community all his life. Ed was a life member of the Myersville Volunteer Fire Company and a charter member of the Myersville Lions Club. In 2006, Lions Club International Foundation honored Ed as a Melvin Jones Fellow for distinguished humanitarian service. Ed will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. A celebration of his life will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville, Md. Pastor David Howell will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 13, Myersville, MD 21773; The Myersville Volunteer Fire Company, P. O.
