James Dodds Obituary

James Bernard Dodds "Barney" MT. PLEASANT - James Bernard "Barney" Dodds, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, widower of Bridget "Tessie" Dodds, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at, Mt. Pleasant Manor. Barney was born June 13, 1921 in Charleston, SC, the son of the late John Joseph and Loretta Hennessy Dodds. He attended Bishop England High School and Murray Vocational School. Barney served during World War II, in the US Navy. Following service to his country, he married the love of his life, Bridget "Tessie" Dodds in 1959. Barney retired after 39 years as a Shipfitter for the Charleston Naval Shipyard. A devout Catholic, he was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Barney was recently pre-deceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Tessie. He will be deeply missed by his son Thomas Dodds and his wife Maria; his granddaughter Audrey Dodds Morgan and her husband Trey; and his grandson Sean Ryan Dodds all of Mt. Pleasant. He will also be deeply missed by his brother John Joseph Dodds, Jr., and his sisters, Mary Loretta Dodds Moore and Helen Dodds Sheppard, all of Mt. Pleasant, and by numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Visitation 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. with Rosary recited at 5:15 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2009 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Liturgy of Christian Burial 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Dr., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464; burial with military honors to follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations to Christ Our King Catholic Church or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
