James Denney Obituary

James Denney MT. PLEASANT - James M. Denney, Jr., 76, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Ann (Cribb) Denney, entered into eternal rest at home on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 surrounded by his family. His service will be held Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 3:00 pm, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. James was born September 10, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, son of the late James M. (Buster) Denney, Sr. and Catherine C. Denney. He spent his life in service of others as a Mt. Pleasant Fireman, North Charleston Police Officer, and a State Constable. He owned and ran Denney Roofing and Repairs for 40 years. He loved his music and a big part of his life focused on his church, where he played and sang. Until his illness, he was the song leader and pianist at Pioneer PH Church with his loving pastor and friend, Rev. Lester Mills. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Denney Mason, of Daniel Island, SC, son, James (Courtney) Denney III of Mount Pleasant, SC, sister, Shirley Ann (Rick) Powell of Summerville, SC; two granddaughters, Ashley Mason of Summerville, SC, Emma Denney of Moncks Corner, SC; grandson, Walker Denney of Moncks Corner, SC. He was preceded in death by father, James M. Denney, Sr., brother, John Leland Denney. Flowers are accepted. Memorials may be made to Pioneer PH Church, 1196 Alligator Rd., Cordesville, SC 29434.
