James Bunton Obituary

James C. Bunton, Sr. WALTERBORO - Mr. James Curtis Bunton, Sr., affectionately known as "Jimmy", 82, of Sandy Dam Lane, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Monday morning, March 19, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 22, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with The Reverend G.W. Harrell and The Revered Gary Rupert officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Dam United Methodist Churchyard, 3422 Charleston Hwy, Walterboro. Mr. Bunton was born September 5, 1929, in Walterboro, and was a son of the late Joseph Curtis Bunton and the late Jewel Hudson Bunton. He was twice retired, having first started as a driver for Coburg Dairy where he retired in 1973 as a supervisor; and then worked as a life insurance agent for Public Savings Life Insurance Company and retired the second time from American Executive Insurance Company. He was raised in the Sandy Dam United Methodist Church. He and his wife were founding members of the Walterboro First Church of the Nazarene where he served as the Church's Treasurer and Sunday School Superintendant for many years as well as having been instrumental and faithful in many other areas of the church's work to include playing the guitar and singing. He also helped form the Summerville Church of the Nazarene. He was a former member of the Civitans and the Jaycees. He loved music, having learned how to play the guitar at 13 years of age, he was always delighted to share his talent and passion in music with others. He also enjoyed fishing both salt water and local fresh water creeks. Surviving are: his wife of sixty-two years, Mrs. Lois Pellum Bunton; two sons, James C. "Jim" Bunton, Jr., of Rosinville and Kerry A. Bunton and his wife Paula of Beaufort; a daughter, Debra "Debbie" Bunton Postell and her husband David of Ravenel; two brothers, Randolph Bunton and his wife Karen of Walterboro and Gene Bunton and his wife Margaret of Walterboro; a sister, Betty Breland and her husband Herman of Denmark; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Blackwelder and her husband Don of Gaston. There are seven grandchildren, Curtis, Angelique, Charles, Sandra, Carol, and Dave; eight great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Linda Postell and a sister, Barbara Ward. Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to Walterboro First Church of the Nazarene, Post Office Box 923, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
