James Brodie Obituary

James Long Brodie, Sr. COLUMBIA - James Long "Jim" Brodie, Sr. 81, of Columbia, died Friday, May 8, 2015. Born in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph Earle, MD and Mary Lou Long Brodie. Jim graduated from Columbia High School, was then employed by the Savannah River Plant before serving in the US Army. He then attended Clemson University, where he was a member of the Numeral Society (now SAE), and graduated in 1961. Jim was a member of the IPTAY Club, Forest Lake Club, SC Debutante Ball, and a former member of The Dance Club and an avid Clemson sports fan. He retired from the SC Tax Commission as Director of the Property Division. Mr. Brodie is survived by his wife of 51 1/2 years, Mary "Hazel" Sears Brodie; his daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Sears "Betsy" Brodie Hartridge, DVM and husband, Robert, of Clayton, GA; his son, James Long Brodie, Jr., of Seneca, SC; grandchildren, Jake Long Brodie, Callie Elizabeth Brodie, Abigail Emile Hartridge, and Henry James Hartridge. He is also survived by his brother, William Frampton Brodie of Raleigh, NC; and sister, Mary Lou Brodie of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He is also survived by his beloved poodle, Teddy. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Earle Brodie, Jr. Friends and family are invited to a service in celebration of Jim's life at 11 o'clock, Monday, May 11th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., with a reception immediately following. Interment at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery will be private. The family suggests that memorials be made in Jim's name to the American Cancer Society, South Carolina Division, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210; or to Pets Inc., P. O.
