James Beckett Obituary

BECKETT, JR., James James Ausgustine Beckett, Jr., who was loved dearly by his family and friends, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning with his family around him. The relatives and friends of Mr. James A. Beckett, Jr. and Mrs. Margaret Hamilton Beckett are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Monday, February 21, 2005 at two o'clock in Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road. Interment, Churchyard. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Sunday, between three and five o'clock. Mr. Beckett, Jr. was born August 24, 1919 in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of James A. Beckett, Sr. and Daisy Walton Beckett. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he worked as an electrician for 34 years. Mr. Beckett has been a member of the John's Island Presbyterian Church where he was a choir member and clerk of session for 12 years. He also served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; his daughter, Marie Beckett of Johns Island, SC; three grandchildren: Thea Andell Pitthan, Vanessa Andell Pitthan, Christina Allston. Jefferies; two great grandchildren: Abigail Allston Jefferies and William Augustine Jefferies; a sister, Mildred Norton and her husband Herbert of Tampa, FL; two sisters in law: Dorothy Hamilton McKee and her husband Bill, and Elizabeth Hamilton Stringfellow; nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Freddie.
