James Anderson Obituary

James Henry Anderson, Jr., 77, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2005. Mr. Anderson was born on October 26, 1928, in Charleston, SC. He was a son of the late Mamie Lee Swink Anderson Johnson and James Henry Anderson, Sr. He was also the step-son of the late Haygood Seabrook Johnson.

Mr. Anderson later moved to Columbia. He was a 1949 graduate of Olympia High School where he excelled in all sports. He and his brother, Harry, were one of five sets of brothers that played on the Olympia football team during that time. Mr. Anderson was a retired member of UA Local 421, Plumbers & Steamfitters of Charleston, SC. He served in the Army National Guard and retired after 25 years of service. Mr. Anderson was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Family graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Georg Retzlaff. Memorials may be made to All Saints’ Episcopal Church Music Scholarship Fund. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Garnetta Lowery Anderson, and his children, Delores Goodwin (Snuffy), Allen Anderson (Peggy), Beverly Maverick and David Anderson (Debbie); grandchildren, Lisa, Dava, Lauren, Kyle, Hannah and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Tripp and Reid; brother and sister-in-law Harry and Regina Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his sister, Iva Mae Anderson Priester.
