Evelyn,
My wife Lelia and I will always have a fond and loving memory of Jake; Lelia, for Jake often saying that he had a relative named Lelia, and me for the many times Jake and I partnered on Saturday morning outreach ministry from church to local homes around Summerville. We often shared sea stories about our experiences as Chief's in the military - he in the US Navy and me in the US Coast Guard.
It doesn't surprise me to see all the grateful comments by others about how Jake influenced their lives - I could never imagine anyone having a negative comment about Jake Nelms. What a man!

Mrs. Nelms, I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I wanted to let you know....When I was a little girl Mr. Nelms would come by our house every Saturday to see if he could pick me up in the church bus on Sunday morning and take me to Remount Baptist Church. I'm a grown woman now and nearly 50 years old. I believe in my heart that one of the biggest reasons I became a Christian was because of this man's dedication and willingness to do this for us kids every Saturday and Sunday morning. Those seeds planted at Remount Baptist Church took root and gave me the desire to know more about Christ later in life. Mr. Nelms was a blessing to me and I will never forget what he did for me.

While I never had the pleasure of meeting 'Uncle Pete' I feel I knew him through the stories Beth and Buddy told. His strength, his unconditional love of family, his unwavering love of God and his sense of humor will be remembered by all. So sorry for your loss. I know he is missed.
