Jacqueline Jacobs Obituary

Jacqueline Jacobs CHARLESTON - Jacqueline E. Jacobs, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Charleston, S.C. on September 19, 2015, surrounded by her family. Jackie was born to the late James and Agnes Everington in Wilkinsburg Pennsylvania on June 17, 1923. She survived one brother, Ronald Everington. She was married to the late Harold W. Jacobs for 67 years. Jacqueline is survived by her 3 children, Patricia Lipe, Janet Bex, & James Jacobs, all of Charleston, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Bishop Gadsden Chapel, James Island, S.C. at 2:00 pm on Saturday September 26. Jacqueline grew up in Hartsville, S.C. and attended Coker College where she graduated in 1944. She then joined the Marine Corps in May of 1944 and served until 1946. It was during this time that she met her future husband Harold, who was in the Navy. Jacqueline began teaching high school Biology, while raising three small children, in 1956 while her husband was attending Law school in Columbia S.C. In 1960, she began working on her Masters and Doctoral Degree in Biology at the University of South Carolina. Shortly after graduation, Jacqueline spent several years working with South Carolina Educational Television developing educational programs for the public school system. In 1974, Mrs. Jacobs joined the South Carolina Wildlife Federation where she devoted her energy to the conservation of wildlife in South Carolina, which was very dear to her. She served as Executive Director of that organization until 1983. She was honored for her work there with The Order of the Palmetto, given by Governor Riley. Mrs. Jacobs was also active in her and church, serving in the choir of Saint Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church in Columbia S.C. Jackie was passionate about her needle work and earned her Master Craftsman certificate from the Embroiders Guild of America in 1994. She created countless beautiful works until her passing. In 2003, Jackie and Harold moved to the Bishop Gadsden community in Charleston where she resided until her passing. They became members of Grace Episcopal Church and loved their retirement, family, and friends. Mrs. Jacobs was a loving wife, mother, friend and roll model and will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bishop Gadsden Residents' Fund. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. I may not remember her that well but I do have some of her needle point and it is absolutely gorgeous. Like I said I don't remember her very well but I am very grateful for the memories I do have of her and Great Papa!

Back when Nexsen Pruet Jacobs and Pollard was small enough to feel like a family, Jackie was a beloved member of that family. She was a very classy lady. It was an honor to have known her.
