Jackie Cleland Obituary

CLELAND, Jackie HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Jackie Benton Cleland, 64, of 203 Middle Street East in Hampton and the widow of Bobby Joe Cleland, died Monday morning at her residence after an extended illness. Born August 15, 1940, in Hampton County, she was the daughter of Viola Hughey Benton and the late J.C. Benton. She had retired as a branch manager with Palmetto State Bank in Hampton, was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Jayceettes and the Gamecock Club. She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Sandy Run Baptist Church near Hampton. She is survived by one son: B. Terrell Cleland of Hampton; three brothers, John C. Benton of Ridgeland, Ernest Benton and Edward Benton, both of Brunson; two sisters, Alice B. Curtis of Estill and Ellen B. Mock of Seattle, WA. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., in the Sandy Run Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Paul Reid and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton. Burial will follow in the Sandy Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, located at 300 Mulberry St., in Hampton, on Wednesday evening, from 6 until 8 p.m., and prior to 10 a.m., on Thursday when the casket will be placed in the church.
