Jack Meincke Obituary

Funeral services for Jack F. "Mike" Meincke, 77, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Meincke died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Believers Together Center, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline.
Jack was born July 3, 1929, in East Moline, the son of John F. and Dorothy (DeAulley) Meincke. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, serving from 1948 to 1952. He married Mary Ann (Lampo) VanOpdorp, October 22, 1982, in Davenport. Jack had worked as a self-employed carpenter, building many homes over the years. He then worked for the City of East Moline as Building Inspector, retiring in 1997. Jack was known for his dry and sarcastic wit. He loved his family deeply.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Meincke, of East Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Merlin Abel, of McKinney, Texas, and Kit and Ronald Whan, of Bettendorf; stepdaughters and son-in-law, Jean and Joe Hansen, of Moline, and Cheryl Williams, of Moline; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Terri VanOpdorp, of Aledo, Ill., Terry and Debi VanOpdorp, of Moline, Lee and Michelle VanOpdorp, of East Moline, and Todd and Karen VanOpdorp, of Moline; 26 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean Koenig, and brothers, Wayne Meincke and Brent Meincke.
