Jack Copeland Obituary

COPELAND, Jack Mr. Edward Jackson Copeland, 85, of Ehrhardt, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro. He was the widower of Elizabeth Betty Robertson Copeland. Funeral services will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery. Mr. Copeland was born February 6, 1923 in Ehrhardt and was a son of the late Laurie Wingard Copeland, Sr. and Deborah Zeigler Copeland. He graduated from Ehrhardt High School and attended Clemson Military College. He served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1947. He then returned home and made farming his career, a job he faithfully loved for 50 years. He and his wife Betty were married for 35 years before her death in 2005, her death left many cherished memories of the times and activities they shared. Jack, as he was known by all, will be remembered for his good nature to others, never meeting anyone that was a stranger, and always sharing and doing what he could for others. We will cherish his memory for his love of cows and especially his donkeys. Surviving are: step-daughters, Coleen Gray Baker and her husband, Dr. J. David Baker, III of Charleston and Joette Gray Hiers and her husband William Carroll Hiers of Ehrhardt; brother-in-law, B.W. Bishop, Jr. of Ehrhardt; nephews, Wingard Copeland and his wife Mary of Ehrhardt and Al Bishop of Hartsville; nieces, Frances Stanley and her husband Billy of Ehrhardt and Jane Moody and her husband Bill of Beaufort; 4 great nieces and nephews; and 4 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, L.W. Copeland, Jr.; and sisters, Lenora Smith and Llewellyn Bishop. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church; Ehrhardt Cemetery; or to the charity of one's choice. For those that wish, memorial messages and thoughts may be made to the family at: www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at THE BRICE W.
