Jack Burch Obituary

Jack Burch GREENWOOD, SC - John G. "Jack" Burch, 80, of Edisto Beach and Greenwood, SC went to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Born in Hartsville, SC on May 24, 1931, Jack was the youngest son of Clancy B. and Eleanor G. Burch of Chesterfield, SC, who lovingly nicknamed him "Teensy". He graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1949 and from the Citadel in 1953. Jack proudly served in the US Air Force and then worked for Milliken & Co. for 35 years, where he received the Prestigious Milliken Internal Quality Award. He retired from Milliken in 1994 as the Director of Materiel Management. Jack loved tailgating at Clemson football games and spending his time at the gazebo on Island Cove, Edisto Beach. He will be remembered for his love of his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret Jean Ratliff Burch; his children, Preston R. Burch (Sarena), John G. Burch, Jr. (Susan) and Alison B. Lynch (Don); his three granddaughters, Sumner Burch, Preston Lynch and Grace Lynch, who affectionately called him "Papa"; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack is also survived by his sister-in-law, Robin Tennyson (Jim) and his two brothers, Clancy B. Burch, Jr. (Joan) and J. William Burch (Gaye). A memorial service will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood at 2 PM on Monday June 13, 2011. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Humane Society of Greenwood, Po Box 49776, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to the Citadel Foundation, c/o the Citadel Brigadier Class of 1953 Scholarship, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC, 29409. After the service, the family will be at the home of John and Susan Burch, 103 Lands End, Greenwood, SC. Harley Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Margaret, I am very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. We were very good friends in the early 60's while in Pendleton, SC, and that continued until retirement.
