J.P. Weatherford Obituary

WEATHERFORD, J.P. HOLLY HILL - Mr. J.P. "Boots" Weatherford, 80, of Holly Hill, husband of Ruby DeHay Weatherford, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Sandridge First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Meetze and Rev. Kevin Litchfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Weatherford was born in Berkeley County a son of the late Ernest P. and Bettie Singletary Weatherford. A graduate of Holly Hill High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a retired farmer. Mr. Weatherford was a director with the Berkeley County Farm Bureau, a member of the Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company Board, and secretary-treasurer of the SC Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. He was a member of the Farmers Home Administration Board, SC Farm Bureau Investment Corporation Board, SC Farm Bureau Service Company Board, and former member of the SC Agricultural Commission. Mr. Weatherford received the Distinguished Service Award from Farm Bureau in 2003, and was Soil Conservation Cooperator of the year in 1981. An active member of the Sandridge First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and various committees of the church. He was also a member of Mims Lake fishing club. Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, Kathy (Leon) Hogan of Columbia; sons, Kenneth (Peggy) Weatherford of Holly Hill, and Ernest (Julie) Weatherford of Pinopolis; a sister, Doreeta (Thom) Pigott of The Oaks, Orangeburg; grandchildren, Lee (Lauren) Hogan of Anderson, Joy (Stephen) Gallo of Charlotte, Ken Weatherford and Kelli (Jesse) Widener all of Holly Hill, and Chasity and Ernest Weatherford, Jr., both of Pinopolis; great-grandchildren, Hunter Spell, Mason Widener, and Sarah Hogan. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. this Sunday at AVINGER FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made to Sandridge First Baptist Church, 5286 State Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
