J. Lanier Obituary

J. Mitchell Lanier MONCKS CORNER - James Mitchell "Mitch" Lanier, 65, an attorney in Moncks Corner, SC, died Saturday evening at a local hospital. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thuirsday evening, December 6, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery, C/O First Baptist Church, 112 East Main St., Moncks Corner, SC, 29461. Mr. Lanier was born May 22, 1947, in Beaufort, SC, the son of Edwin Lanier and Lena Mae Sharp Lanier. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He received his BA Degree from the College of Charleston and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of South Carolina. He served Berkeley County as Chief Public Defender for 23 years. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and admitted to practice in Federal Court. He served as a Board Member for the Public Defender Association and the Neighborhood Legal Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member and treasurer of Mepkin Hunt Club. Surviving are, his devoted wife of 37 years, Judith Singletary Lanier; his son (and best bud) James M. Lanier, Jr., and wife, Kristen; his grandson, James Mitchell Lanier, III; his parents-in-law, Judge and Mrs. Clarence E. Singletary; and his sister-in-law, Kathryn H.J. Singletary.
