LCDR J. Carol Brown, USCG Reserve (Ret.) Charleston - LCDR J. Carol Brown, USCG Reserve (Ret.) 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, of Barbara B. Brown, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 11, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 in the Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC at 11:00 am, and the family will receive friends prior beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road Charleston, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Carol was born February 18, 1930 in Andrews, South Carolina, son of the late Mervin A Brown, Sr. and the late Ivanelle Coker Brown. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and Baptist College, attended Palmer College, and attended Southern Illinois University. He was a US Navy and Korean War Veteran before entering and ultimately retiring from the US Coast Guard Reserve. Carol taught psychology and criminology at the Charleston Air Force base. He was a S.C. Highway Patrolman and worked as a S.C. Parole and Probation Officer. He was also a lifeguard at Folly Beach for many years, a former deacon, and a teacher for the David Harris Sunday School Class in Ashley River Baptist Church. He loved metal detecting and singing, and his album "A Feeling In My Heart" was played on the radio. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by daughter, Deryl J. McElvarr (Edward J.) of Mount Holly, NJ; son, Daniel T. Brown (Roxanne) of Bowman, SC; four grandchildren, Jay D. Brown, Christy Brown Whitlock (Brandon), Myria Nerolich, and Dennis Nerolich; and great-grandchild, Grayson Whitlock and Rowan Whitlock. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mervin A. Brown, Jr. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC, 29407.
