Ivy Malphrus Obituary

Ivy Malphrus SUMMERVILLE - Ivy "Gene" Malphrus, 79, passed away on February 28, 2023. He was born March 30, 1943 in Ridgeland, SC to Daniel Wesley and Pauline Malphrus, who died at his birth. He was adopted by his uncle and aunt, George and Mildred Malphrus, and raised in Summerville. He attended Summerville High School and played football for the Green Wave, graduating in 1963. Gene's career included manufacturing, wallpapering, and facilities maintenance. He played softball and golf and was a huge animal lover. But what people loved most about Gene was the way he made them laugh. Gene is survived by his wife of 10 years, Sue Malphrus of Summerville; siblings, Franklin "Red" Malphrus (Helen), Donald Malphrus (Gail), and Patti Morgan (Jerry), all of Ridgeland, SC, Evelyn Olsen (Gaylon) of Little Falls, MN, and Kay Maynard (Skipper) of Anderson, SC; daughter, Jennifer Bowzard of Summerville; grandsons, Brent Bowzard of Charleston and Alex Bowzard of Honolulu, HI; step-daughter, Laura Dixon of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as siblings Paul "Max" Malphrus (Shirley) and Christine Gunter (Harry). Visitation will be Monday, March 6 from 5-7 PM at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. His funeral service will be Tuesday, March 7 at 2 PM at Bethany UMC in Summerville (refer to jamesadyal.com for details).
