Irvin J. Slotchiver ISLE OF PALMS - Irvin J. Slotchiver, 93, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Carole Greenberg Slotchiver, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 10, 2023. His graveside service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. Irvin J. Slotchiver, the longest-serving tax attorney in the State of South Carolina, was born on August 14, 1929 in Charleston South Carolina, the youngest of five children born to Lena and Sam Slotchiver. Lena, his mom, stayed home to raise the children - four girls and one boy - and Sam, his dad, ran a shoe store. Although Irvin was predeceased by his four sisters, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Herbert Rovick. Irvin attended the College of Charleston, the University of South Carolina, Duke University Law School and the Wharton Graduate School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1951, the United States Claims Court and the United States Tax Court in 1957, the United States Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit in 1976, and the United States Supreme Court in 1981. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the Charleston County Bar Association, He was a Certified Specialist in Taxation Law. A proud Veteran of the Korean War, Irvin was a member of the United States Army Finance Core. Irvin met the love of his life, Carole Lee Greenberg, on a trip to Miami Florida with his best friend (and cousin) Jack Slotchiver, and Irvin and Carole were married on January 13, 1963. Irvin had two passions, his work at the law firm he founded, and his family. Both were a constant blessing to him throughout his life. He and Carole raised their six children together - Eric Leroy "Ezra" (Gila) - who have three sons, two daughters, and five grandchildren, Daniel Scott (Stacey) - who have a daughter, Paul Harry, Stephen Michael (Anna) - who have a daughter, Jeremy Alan, and Julia Lynn (Dan), who have three sons and three daughters. Irvin considered himself to be among the luckiest people in the world. He was routinely amazed at how the things that happened in his life just seemed to go his way, and felt especially blessed at how his life had turned out. He was always exceptionally grateful for his good fortune, and for having had the opportunity to live the life he had. Irvin died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
